August 20, 2007

A local long-term care facility will borrow nearly $16 million from theprovince to pay for its new residences, which will include 150 morebeds.  St. Joseph’s Continuing Care Centre in Cornwall is the firstnot-for-profit long-term care home in the province to receive a loanfrom Infrastructure Ontario since the organization began acceptingapplications from the non-profit health care sector last year.  The low-interest loan will help pay for the centre’scurrently ongoing expansion, which will result in five new residencesand is expected to be finished this fall.  MPP Jim Brownell said Friday the provincial loan will “helpbig time” with the project. The loan has set a precedent in the area,he added, and now it’s up to other long-term care homes to seekgovernment funding to help cover their needs. The centre’s director of finance and administration agreed other agencies are likely to benefit from the loan in the future.
