Not elder law: Ancient Domesday Book goes digital…

It has travelled with royalty, survived two world wars and the GreatFire of London, but the Domesday Book has taken a step into the futureby going online.

William the Conqueror’s great inventory of his new kingdom wascommissioned in 1085 to find out what and how many military andfinancial resources he had at his disposal to fend off the threat ofinvasion from Denmark.

Last year the book was voted the nation’s finest treasure and from this month, it can be accessed via the web.

Written in 11th century Latin, the 920-year-old manuscript can be directly translated into a readable document and you can even see PDF versions of the original Domesday Book pages, with faultless handwriting and decorative swirls, from the comfort of your living room.
