SD: Long term care partnership legislation in the works
February 15, 2006
From the Marshall County (SD) Journal:
H.B1072 is an act to direct the Department of Social Services to establishthe South Dakota long-term care partnership program. This bill wouldprovide an incentive for people to buy long-term care partnershipplans. It would allow the individual to keep on equal amount of asstsas the amount paid by the long term plan. For example, if your longterm plan pays for expenditures up to $100,000, than the individualwould be allowed to keep up to $100,000 in assts. The bill would reducethe sole reliance on Medicaid for long-term care and free up money inthe Medicaid system. However, Congress must give us approval for statesto implement programs like this.
