Sharon’s doctors consult long-term care experts

Israeli Prime Minister Ariel Sharon’s doctorsconsulted on Wednesday with specialists from a long-term care facilitythat claims a high success rate for awakening comatose patients.

Aspokeswoman for Jerusalem’s Hadassah hospital, where Sharon has been ina coma since a massive stroke on January 4, said the 77-year-old leaderremained in critical but stable condition.

With Sharon showingno signs of waking up, two intensive care specialists from LoewensteinHospital Rehabilitation Centre in central Israel were brought in forconsultations with his doctors, the spokeswoman said.

She gave no word on whether he would be moved there.

TheLoewenstein Centre says on its Web site that close to 86 percent ofcomatose patients in its neurological intensive care unit haverecovered consciousness, a figure it described as one of the highest inthe world.
