Nursing Home Costs Skyrocket to $74,000/year

Met Life has just released its annual survey of nursing home costs around the country.  Key findings:

• The average daily rate for a private room in a nursing home is $203, or $74,095 annually.
• The average daily rate for a semiprivate room in a nursing home is $176, or $64,240 annually.
• The average hourly rate for Home Health Aides is $19.
• The average hourly rate for homemakers/companions is $17.

Meanwhile, Congress looks forward to punishing those unfortunate members of the middle class who happen to be struck with a debilitating illness as they age.
