Loyola University Chicago Elder Law Initiative announces The Adult Guardianship GAL Project
A new Elder Law Initiative project made possiblethrough a generous grant from the Dr. Scholl Foundation. The projectaims to increase the number of pro bono guardians ad litem (GALs)available to investigate adult guardianship cases and to develop a poolof other professionals to assist in guardianship cases in Cook County,Illinois Circuit Court.
What:
The Adult Guardianship GAL Project aims to increase thenumber of pro bono guardians ad litem (GALs) available to investigateadult guardianship in the Cook County, Illinois Circuit Court anddevelop a pool of other professionals to assist in adult guardianshipcases.
Who:
- Retired, practicing, and new attorneys
- Other professionals (including doctors, social workers, andpharmacists, medical professionals, health care professionals, andmental health professionals with training or experience in working withthe elderly, developmentally disabled, and/or mentally disabled).
THE TRAINING:
The Project will provide training and adetailed manual to professionals interested in serving as GAL. Inreturn, volunteers are expected to participate in 3 adult guardianshipcases or devote a total of 40 hours (which ever comes first) over thecourse of the following year.
When:
A choice of two training dates will be offered. The first training will be August 3, 2005 from 9am to 4pm, and the second training session will be held in Fall, 2005.
