President’s budget request for AoA even less than last year’s
“The FY 2007 budget request for the Administration on Aging (AoA) is$1,338,000,000. This budget is designed to accelerate the key systemschanges needed to prepare the nation for the aging and long-term careneeds of the baby boom generation. The request also seeks to streamlineand completely integrate our existing core programs to better meetcurrent needs in a time of fiscal restraint.”
Ed: The FY 2007 budget request is almost $59 million less than FY 2005’s allocation of $ 1,396,638,000 and over $28 million less than FY 2006’s allocation of $ 1,366,155,000 — even though the number of seniors served by AoA programs has increased by more than 2 million persons since 2004. So per capita expenditures for this group have fallen considerably. What’s up with that? Is it a case of doing more with less, as AoA’s apologia implies? Or doing less for more? Seniors, pay attention–I humbly suggest that this is the handwriting on the wall.
