Calgary: New long-term care centre for Strathmore
After years of waiting, Strathmore is getting a new long-term care facility.
The Calgary Health Region (CHR), in partnership with the BrendaStrafford Foundation, a long-term care provider based in Calgary,announced on Feb. 9 at the Strathmore hospital that it is developing anew 130-bed long-term care and supportive living centre in town.
With 70 beds in the new facility for traditional long term care and theremaining 60 beds for independent housing and supportive living optionsfor seniors and adults with disabilities, the centre will provide arange of housing and care services under one roof.
George Pinchbeck, who is the Strathmore representative on the CHRboard, said the new facility will allow area seniors to remain in thecommunity and make it easier for family members to support them.“Seniors are such a big part of our community,” he noted.“This announcement means that in the future local seniors will be able to stay in the area,” he said.“Now that something is being placed in the community … there is a lot more support for them (seniors).”
