Minnesota AG sues California trust mill
Minnesota’s Lori Swanson today became the third state attorney generalin under a year to take legal action against a so-called “trust mill.” Swansontoday filed suit against two California businesses operated by the samefamily. Swanson alleges the two bilked Minnesota seniors out ofmillions of dollars. She charges that American Family Legal Plan(AFLP) inappropriately sold “living trusts” to as many as 2,000Minnesota seniors. She also charges Heritage Marketing and InsuranceServices, a related company, with selling annuities deceptively. Bothcompanies are owned and controlled by father-and-son partnershipJeffrey and Stanley Norman and allegedly preyed on the same elderlypeople. “These companies deceptively sold boilerplate livingtrusts to senior citizens regardless of whether those trusts weresuitable for the seniors’ estate planning or financial needs,” Swansonsaid.
