Big part D plans won’t cover brand-name drugs in donut hole
The gap in Medicare’s prescription drug coverage is looking deeper. Forthe second time in two years, a major insurer that covered brand-namedrugs in the “doughnut hole” has said it’s losing money on the drugplan and pulling it off the market at the end of the year. As aresult, seniors who depend on costly medications to treat chronic orserious illnesses are left to wonder, again, where to turn forcomprehensive drug coverage next year. Of 60 drug plans availablein Texas this year, 17 cover generic drugs in the doughnut hole, whereseniors typically bear the full cost of prescriptions.
