AARP Int’l posts forum interviews on elder abuse issues
Throughout the world, abuse and neglect of older persons has beenlargely under-recognized or under-treated as an unspoken problem. Today, it is increasingly being seen as an important problem but mayalso be likely to grow as many countries experience rapidly agingpopulations. Similar to other types of violence, abuse of the elderlyincludes physical, financial, sexual and psychological abuse, as wellas neglect. In recognition of World Elder Abuse Awareness Day (June 16), AARP International hosted a two-week online forumof experts from around the world. The aim of this online dialogue is topromote a better understanding of abuse and neglect of older persons byfacilitating a global discussion among key national experts to raiseawareness of the cultural, social, economic and demographic processesaffecting elder abuse and neglect.
