AARP and UN will hold annual briefing session Feb. 2-3

AARP,in cooperation with the United Nations Programme on Ageing, Departmentof Economic and Social Affairs (UNDESA), will organize a series ofbriefings on key global aging issues from February 2-3, 2010. Theseevents are in conjunction with the UN Commission for Social Developmentforty-eighth session (February 3-12, 2010) and the Commission’spriority theme of Social Integration. Future opportunities andchallenges of population aging particularly around global health andthe empowerment and human rights of older persons will be discussed.

TheAARP-UN Briefing Series, in its fourth annual installment, willcontinue to serve as a primary forum for government delegates, NGOs,foundations, and academics to exchange dialogue on how to develop andpromote policies beneficial to older persons and society as a whole,with close consideration of how countries can further implement therecommendations of the Madrid International Plan of Action on Ageingfrom 2002 and the themes of the United Nations Principles for OlderPersons.
