The Medicare 2013 Annual Election Period: Medicare Advantage, Part D, the New Marketplaces and More
The Medicare Annual Coordinated Election Period (ACEP) starts October 15th. This is the period during which Medicare beneficiaries can enroll in, and change or disenroll from Part C Medicare Advantage plans and Part D prescription drug plans, with any change effective January 1, 2014. For the first time, the Medicare ACEP will overlap with enrollment in the Affordable Care Act’s marketplaces (exchanges), which begins October 1st. Dual eligible demonstration programs in some states will also start around this time, as will enrollment in certain state Medicaid long-term services and supports managed care programs. How will all of this work together, and how can people sort through the confusion?
Issues to be discussed include:
- Practical tips for analyzing and choosing 2014 Medicare Advantage and Part D plans
- Overview of 2014 Medicare Advantage and Part D plan information (based on information available at that time
- Overview of how the marketplaces will interact with MedicarePotential pitfalls for Medicare beneficiaries and suggestions about how to address them
