Via the South Florida Business Journal:
The U.S. Department of Justice said its Medicare Fraud Strike Force set a new record for prosecutions in fiscal year 2013. While the DOJ didn’t break the numbers down by region, it’s widely known that Miami is a hotbed for Medicare fraud. The most active district in the nation for the task force is the Southern District of Florida. The Medicare Fraud Strike Force filed a record 137 cases last year and charged a record 345 individuals. It secured 234 guilty pleas and 46 jury trial convictions – both records, as well. The average prison sentence for Medicare fraud last year was 52 months.
