Pennsylvania’s Elder Law Institute in 2025: Critical Issues in Contracting and Financing for Senior Living

It was my privilege to again welcome A.V. Powell, one of the nation’s best known actuaries serving as a consultant to Continuing Care Retirement and Life Plan Communities, as a speaker for annual Pennsylvania’s Elder Law Institute, held this year in July in Harrisburg. 

This year’s session was on “Critical Issues in Contracting and Financing for Senior Living.”  Concerns about solvency, including questions about “refundable” entrance fees are especially hot right now, especially in light of major bankruptcy cases  summarized in a Wall Street Journal article on July 7, 2025.  We’re smiling because we enjoy working together, but the topic was serious.
