It is increasingly common for individuals to be paid to provide in-home care for persons needing assistance to live independently. The agreement to pay needs to be in writing and effective caregiver agreements are more than fill in the blank forms. Caregiver agreements need to clearly reflect expectations, and conditions of payment need to comply with Medicaid, tax and employment laws. Well written agreements can be invaluable in avoiding conflicts between family members over payment of care and services.
Learning objectives:
- Participants will learn what agreements need to be in writing and why.
- Participants will explore the essential elements that need to be considered in drafting caregiver agreements.
- Participants will understand the importance of written caregiver agreements in complying with employment, tax and Medicaid laws.
- Participants will learn the role of written agreements in conflicts between family members regarding payment for care and services.
