Family Conflicts? Part Three
We devoted prior posts to Professor Sheila Heen’s Ask the Experts Column in Booming, where readers could submit questions that she would subsequently answer. Her third column of answers was published January 8th, and although it is titled The Office Bully, the questions and her answers range beyond that topic to include questions regarding family conflicts, including those engendered by money. One focuses on the grandmother who has been cut out of contact with grandchildren (yet the family still expects her to be financially supportive), another focuses on the parents who refused to provide financial assistance to a child, and a third on a relative who has provided financial help but the recipient refuses to take steps to improve her financial situation. Next week’s column will address topics including “inheritances, [and] unhelpful siblings…” Great stuff to use for a discussion about family dynamics and the steps to take in the process of planning for clients!
