Advocacy for limited-English-proficient seniors

The Shriver National Center on Poverty Law has just published
“What You Need to Know About Advocacy for Limited-English-Proficient Elders”
Growingnumbers of limited-English-proficient senior citizens frequentlyencounter language barriers when attempting to access governmentservices and programs. Older people have a number of language-accessrights under both federal and state law as well as under legal servicesprogram policies. Advocates should be aware of these rights andspecific language-access problems related to the largest governmentagency regularly used by the elderly: the Social SecurityAdministration.
