KFF Student Writing Competition–deadline is March 30
KaiserEDU.org’s First Annual Student Essay Contestis now open. Submit an original essay on the topic below for a chanceto win $1,000. Deadline for submission is March 30, 2007.
Essay Topic
Youhave just accepted a job as a senior advisor to a presidentialcandidate* for the 2008 election. Your first task is to prepare a memofor the candidate outlining your recommendation for the candidate’shealth plan. Your memo should discuss what the centerpiece of thecandidate’s health plan should be, why this issue is important to thevoters, the potential challenges that your candidate may face inpromoting the plan, and how it would be communicated to the public.Your candidate can have any political affiliation you choose. Please beoriginal. This memo should describe what you would recommend to yourideal candidate. Remember, the candidate is extremely busy so brevityand conciseness are important.
*does not have to be based on an actual candidate
WHO:Submissions will be accepted from undergraduate and graduate-levelstudents in all disciplines. Students must be enrolled in adegree-granting program at a university or college at the time ofsubmission.
WHAT: Essays must not be more than 1,500 words in length )that’s six single spaced pages, folks!) and must be original work, prepared by one author only.
WHEN: All essays must be submitted by March 30, 2007, 5p.m. EST
WHERE: Entries must be submitted by email to EssayContest2007@KFF.org, with two Microsoft Word document attachments only: Entry Form and essay. For more information about Rules and Requirements visit kaiserEDU.org.
HOW:Undergraduate and graduate-level students will be judged separately.Entries will be judged by a panel of professionals with experience inhealth policy and politics from inside and outside the Kaiser FamilyFoundation, including Michael McCurry, former White House PressSecretary. Judges will base their decisions on originality, expressionof ideas, strength of argument, and clarity. Winners will be notifiedby May 1, 2007.
