Elderly, blind inmate to be executed in CA next week

GurneyKGO-TV reports that “there will be no reprieve for the oldest inmate on California’s Death Row. Clarence Ray Allen is still scheduled to die at San Quentin in oneweek. The state supreme court rejected Allen’s request to stop theexecution. He claims it would be cruel and unusual punishment to kill a75-year-old blind man.

Allen’s attorneys say they’ll go to the U.S. Supreme Court next.

Allen is scheduled to be executed next Tuesday morning for masterminding three murders in Fresno.”
