N. Ireland set to outlaw age discrimination
Age discrimination is set to be outlawed in the workplace in Northern Ireland, the Government announced today.
Lord Rooker, himself aged 64, launched a consultation process onproposed new anti-bias laws which are due to take effect on October 1next year.
The minister, whose responsibilities include equality, said thelegislation was designed to prohibit unjustified age discrimination inemployment and training.
He said: “It will have far reaching consequences for employers andemployees alike, impacting on every aspect of employment, eitherdirectly where there are specific age-based issues or indirectly wherematters surrounding length of service are concerned.
