Australia: Dementia cases set to triple by 2055

A report by the New South Wales Government and Alzheimer’s Australiapredicts the number of people with dementia in the state will more thantriple over the next 50 years.

The study has identified Sydney’s west and south-west as the areas set to experience the largest increase in dementia cases.

New South Wales Health Minister John Hatzistergos says the report will help the Government plan for future dementia services.

“It’ll help us plan future service provision both in terms of theamount of services we require across the state and also the location ofthe services,” he said.

“The study will also underscore the importance of research and treatment breakthroughs.”
